As many long time Water Valley residents will tell you, after a long cold winter of hibernating indoors Spring here and it is a time for fresh beginnings and time to reconnect with friends, family, neighbors and loved ones. The key to a great Spring gathering is simplicity. Keeping your menu and décor simple will allow your guests to feel comfortable and you to enjoy spending time in their company. Your Spring party decor my be as simple as fresh cuttings from your garden or a quick trip to the grocery store floral department for some spring like florals. Tulips are always a great choice to add a festive mood to any springtime get-together. Incorporate décor items you already have like seashells or starfish from that trip to Mexico or items that evoke the feeling of Spring like rain boots and brightly colored umbrellas just hanging around in your coat closet. By using what you have, you can stretch you party budget and no one will know the difference. It is also a great idea to pick a color pallet of a couple well selected colors and stick to it through out your party theme. Use ribbons and decorative craft paper or even spring like wrapping paper to pull it all together. Coordinating your napkins and table scape with these special touches will make your guests feel like you have gone out of your way to throw a one-of-a-kind gathering.
Now for the drinks, a simple “signature beverage” might be the way to go. Consider serving a festive Spring like drink like a Raspberry Collins. Why not set out a “ready to drink” cocktail as your guests arrive? This simple gesture makes them feel immediately welcome. Another great set up for a simple gathering is a wine sangria, a vodka spritzer, punch or Summer brew prepared in a lovely clear glass container so your guests may serve themselves with ease. (This is the type of item you should feel comfortable splurging on because you can use it over and over making it a great long term party investment.) An substantial ice bucket with various other beverages should satisfy all your guests drink preferences. You may even feel comfortable letting your guest know they may bring whatever they enjoy drinking to your party. Anything that keeps you from tending drinks during the entire party is obviously a plus. Food for a Spring gathering can be extremely simple as well. Finger foods like a selection of gourmet crackers, fresh vegetables, cheeses, smoked salmon, summer sausages and simple dips can fit the bill keeping the hosts out of the kitchen and your party budget in check. Parties do not have to be elaborate or expensive to be festive and enjoyable for you and your guests. Make your Spring gathering be one to remember by keeping it simple, inexpensive, fresh and inviting all while enjoying time visiting and interacting with your special invited guests.
